I’ve worked with many people over the last eleven years who have been motivated to declutter and organise their home, and felt confident enough to feel they could follow a DIY plan. Kiwis are masters of Do It Yourself and ‘number 8 fencing wire’ and we love to muck in, roll up our sleeves and work out how to do what needs to be done.
While I think we can be proud of our ‘can do’ attitude, we do sometimes need to consult an expert and get some guidance on exactly how to do it! Once the clutter becomes unmanageable all sorts of emotions can come into play such as overwhelm, shame, frustration, and sometimes desperation, all of which lead to unnecessary stress. At this stage you need a tailored step by step plan that is going to tell you exactly what you need to do next, and how to do it.
So how does it work?
– If you live in Auckland there is the option of my meeting with you in your home and creating the work plan as we walk through each room. I can then type it up in a format that is easy to follow and email it to you.
– For those who live outside of Auckland, we have an initial phone conversation to discuss the areas you need to work on, and I get you to send me photos of the areas in question so I can put together the visual work plan. I explain how this works in our initial call.
– Once I send you the work plan I suggest you touch base with me, say once a week or once a fortnight depending on how quickly you think you are going to start on the project, to let me know your progress. This is not only a useful check in to cover any questions that crop up, but also to keep you enthused so you maintain the momentum to continue with your plan.
Clearly there are advantages to this DIY programme:
– You don’t have to schedule time in your busy day for your declutter expert to come and work with you in your home.
– You can work at your own pace and schedule time to work on your plan, whether it be when the family are out of the house, or you might persuade them to give you a hand.
– Some of us like to work on our own so we have the peace and quiet to really think about what we’re doing and envision how we want the space to look and work for us. There’s satisfaction too in working methodically on a project and seeing a real difference for our efforts.
– This service is economical because it’s only going to cost you the time for me to prepare your work plan, with the option of an initial visit to scope the house and prepare the plan.
– And what a sense of accomplishment you’ll feel as you progress through the plan and see the various areas of your home transform.
So if you think a DIY Work Plan is exactly what you’re looking for I’d love to work with you on it, and help you through the process. I’m happy to discuss the programme with you if you are interested.
I wish you joy and blessings for a wonderful month ahead.
In Joy!
